The Dog - Marley & Me

Thursday, August 09, 2007

I love dogs. Especially the kind with those melting brown eyes and liquid look - and I especially love yellow Labs. Marley & Me is a book from John Grogan, about the "World's Worst Dog," a yellow Lab, but as the book promises, you do fall in love with Marley long before the last page is turned.

This story about a delinquent dog that slobbers about the house like a goofball stayed on top of the New York Times best-seller's list for 24 weeks. Of course, Marley has something going for him? Indeed he does. This is one book I can pick up any day and re-read all of Marley's adventures again and again. And oh yeah! Especially Marley's capers with his old love, a poodle.
The young family making their way through life with the help of a neurotic dog will have you laughing out loud one moment, and then wiping a tear the next.

However, whether or not you are a "dog person", there is still an awful lot to gain and enjoy while reading this book. The memories are so personal and heart-felt, at times you can completely forget Marley has anything to do with the book. But then he comes barreling back in the next paragraph, bringing humorous antics with every step.

Marley & Me : Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog is an excellent book that can be enjoyed by all sorts of people (even cat lovers). The stories are funny and meaningful, the drama is heartwarming and sincere, and the dog is a complete mess. In the end, Marley reminds us all that life should be lived to its fullest, that we should love people unconditionally, and that shredded upholstery is a small price to pay for a life-long friend.Check out Marley's own site -here- while the -New York Times has an interesting review- on the book.
