Thursday, December 29, 2016

More and more people are trying to live environmentally friendly lives these days. There are various reasons for this, but one of the main ones is that it is a lot better for the planet. By living an eco-friendly life, we help to greatly reduce our carbon footprint which can help to slow down climate change. Not only that, though, but many families find that living a hippy inspired life can help them make big savings on utility bills and over regular expenditures. Want to know how you can turn your household green? Here are some of my favorite tips and tricks.

Use Renewable Power

Most of us rely on gas and oil for our heating these days. However, these are nonrenewable fuels as there is only a finite amount of them on the planet. That’s not the only disadvantage of using them, either. They are the main cause of pollution on the planet, and our continual use of them is damaging the planet. For these reasons, many households are now switching to renewable sources of energy, such as solar power. Solar power isn’t just better for the planet, but looking at Semper Solaris shows that it is cheaper too.

Shop Locally

All of the products that are for sale in large supermarkets will have been shipped in from far afield. Some of the products may have even been imported from abroad. Because of all the travel that the goods and products have to endure, they will have a very large carbon footprint. For this reason, lots of people are now shopping in local shops that source all their groceries and products from local suppliers. Another great place to find local produce is at your local farmer’s market. By buying local products, you will help to keep your household’s carbon footprint as low as possible.

Insulate Your Loft Area

Are you sick of leaving the heating on all winter and clocking up huge utility bills as a result? There is one easy remedy for this. You just need to insulate your loft a lot better. That way, your home won’t lose so much hot air. A better insulated home won’t take as long to heat up once you put the heating on, and it will also retain the heat for a lot longer as well. That means you are saving both energy and money!

Replace Single-Glazed Windows With Double Glazing

Another part of properties that lets out a lot of heat is the windows. Single glazing is incredibly inefficient and will allow a lot of hot air to escape from the house. You will find that replacing them with double glazing will keep your house a lot warmer. And it will also save you money as you won’t have to leave the heating on for quite as long.

As you can see, there are plenty of tips and tricks that will be able to help you live the hippy dream and improve your home’s eco-friendliness. Not only that, but your weekly utility bills should decrease as well!
