Got a special event coming up? It could be a reunion, a your wedding, a special birthday or the vacation of a lifetime. Whatever it is, chances are you’ll want to look your best. Whether it’s to look good in photos or just to feel confident in yourself, it’s a good idea to put in the effort in the run up to the event. Here are a few of the ways you can look your best for whatever occasion you have in your diary.

A Year Before

If you want to lose weight, gain weight or tone up before the big event- start as early as possible. You’ll need to address your diet, and decide on an exercise routine that works for you. It could be going to the gym, joining a class, taking part in a sport or just working out at home. Starting early gives you as much time as possible to reach your goal weight or shape. You can also begin a skincare regime early on, regularly moisturising, exfoliating and using face masks to get your skin into the best condition possible. If you have any long term issues, speaking to a doctor or dermatologist will put you on the right path. Use hydrating hair products and take steps to improve the condition such as cutting back on box dyes or using too much heat. Having a ‘big chop’ early on to get rid of any split ends gives you a healthy starting point.

Months Before

If you’re planning on having any minor cosmetic treatments, having them done a few months before gives you time to recover and heal. This could be anything from a chemical skin peel to an eye lift to liposuction- either invasive or non-invasive using lasers or cooling methods. It’s also a good chance to evaluate your diet and exercise progress and work out what direction to take to make sure you look your best in time for the event.

Weeks Before

If you are planning on getting your teeth whitened or veneers fitted, these can be done a few weeks before the big event. Teeth whitening trays usually take around a month to work, and veneers take a few weeks between the initial consultation and having them fitted. Now is a good time to go to the hairdresser and decide on a cut and colour. Going a few weeks before gives you time to get used to any change, or even make further changes if you decide you don’t like it. Salon skin procedures such as microdermabrasion last for four to six weeks, and so have these things done a few weeks before. It means your skin can fully heal, but you’ll still be reaping the rewards on the big day. If you’re having non-surgical treatments such as Botox or lip fillers done, a few weeks beforehand is the optimum time for them. This gives you a chance to make any adjustments if needed.

Days Before

Do a trial run of your hair, makeup and outfit. Make sure everything looks exactly how you want it to. Now is a good time to think about hair removal, using wax strips will give you long lasting results so you don’t need to shave right before or on the day of the event. Have your eyebrows and any unwanted facial hair threaded or waxed. Visit the nail salon to have your nails done.

Follow these tips, and you’re sure to look and feel perfect for your big day! It will give you confidence, and you’ll be able to look back on the photos with pride.
