How To Decorate Your Home For The Summer

Tuesday, August 06, 2013

When the lazy days of summer arrive all one wants to do is relax and lay back, enjoy the sun and freshness while be cooled off somehow. It’s not necessary to step outside to witness or enjoy the summer but the look can also b incorporated indoors easily for the perfect feel, simply think of what you find calming, cool and inviting, something that would be in a five star retreat and transform your home into exactly that! Here are some ideas for an ideal summer decor:

Light Fabrics
Summer is the perfect time to take out light and sheer fabrics to be used everywhere around the house, there needs to be less bulk and feeling of spaciousness. The curtains must be light and airy to allow the air as well as sunlight to pass through resulting in a calming atmosphere. All heavy weight, plush and woollen rugs should be replaced by light cotton ones for the floor to emit a cooling effect while all throws and runners etc. can be of as light a fabric as lace or net to complete a summery look.

Colors
Yellow brings in the warmth and inviting feel of the summer months; blue resembles the wide open sky and the vast calming ocean, while white brightens up the room proving a spacious and open feeling and it goes with just about anything, these three colours are a must have to incorporate in your decor during summer time. Dark colours will not help in brightening up the space they will only absorb the sunlight and create a gloomy effect thus the focus must be on light and bright colours, perfect for the summer time. A neutral coloured room is perfect for summer while it can be given hints of colour through funky rugs, cushions or cheap canvas prints on the wall.

Living Things
Adding a touch of life can do wonders for the decor as it brings in freshness like nothing others. If you already have decaying or brown plants then it’s best to replace them with fresh, lively ones else bring is some new plants to for the ideal summer effect. Summers are all about greenery and the perfect season for flowers and growth thus bringing a bit of this indoors will create the perfect aura. Flowers not only add life but colour as well to your home along with a pleasant smell thus stimulating all your senses towards the summer season. Add in a variety of plants and flowers of different species and heights to complete the look and use brightly coloured pots and vases.

Include Touches Of The Tropics
You may not be able to visit or live on a tropical island this summer but nothing can stop your house from going tropical! You can hang up photo canvas prints of the beach and the sea and even marine animals to add a tropical touch to your wall, use monochromatic frames and hang them on a light wall so they stand out. DIY art projects can be created such as a memo board in beach colours decorated with shells and fish stickers or coloured sand arranged artistically in a glass bowl. Wicker furniture is more than idea for summer inspired decor resembling the tropics.
