Making the Most of a Weekend Away

Tuesday, February 21, 2017

Traveling when you have a full-time job isn't easy. Even when you use up all your holiday time, you can't always get in all the trips you would like too. Making the most of your weekends is a great way to travel more. There's a lot you can do on a quick city break or a couple of days exploring the outdoors. But when you only have a short window of time, you need to make the most of every single minute. If you want to get as much as possible out of a weekend away, you need to plan your time carefully. Once you've selected your destination, try these tips to make more of your weekend.

Pack Smartly

If you want your weekend to rock, you should start by making sure you pack properly. You're only going for a couple of days, so you don't want to overpack. But you don't want to leave any important items behind either. Start by choosing the best weekender bag for women to become your loyal weekend break companion. It should be big enough for a couple of days' stuff, without being so large you could pack for a week. Pick one that's about cabin luggage size. Take one bag with your clothes and other essentials, and a smaller one for your keys, travel documents, and money that you can take out with you.

Shorten Travel Time

You don't want to waste your time traveling, so shortening your travel time is best. Your choice of destination will obviously affect this, but so will your mode of transport. And you need to think about what you want to do during your 48 hours away too. If you're going on a city break, staying in the city center is a sensible thing to do. Unless, of course, you want to be near a particular district for its trendy bars, museums, or whatever else you like. And if there's good public transport, you'll probably be able to get around faster than if you use a car.

Make a Plan

When you have more time, a bit of slow and ambling travel is fine. But with just 48 hours or so to spare, you don't want to waste time thinking about what to do next. If you want to fit in as much as possible, coming up with an itinerary will keep you on track. Decide what you want to do and what order to do it in. You might even pick where you're going to eat for each of your meals so you can book tables and not waste time trying to find somewhere with space.

Don't Be Overly Ambitious

You might have a long list of things you want to do. But you're meant to be on a break, and you don't want to leave feeling more exhausted than when you arrived. If you try to pack too much in, you won't get time to really experience everything in the way you want. You'll be too busy rushing off to the next thing on your list.

Take your weekend away slowly, but not too slowly. You need to strike the right balance between seeing what you want to see and being able to take it all in.
